Benefits of agonists-- they tend to be a bit smoother and longer acting than levodopa. Levodopa is more likely to feel like a roller-coaster (if you don't get it right), that tends not to happen with the agonists.
Apomorphine (Apokyn) is a short-acting agonist that is delivered intramuscularly (with a needle) to rescue people from OFF periods. The needle isn't as scary as most people fear it will be and given it's use and chemical make-up, I don't worry about IM apomorphine causing the same side effects as the longer-acting agonists.
