Critical for the Intestinal Microbiome

Fiber plays a critical role in maintaining a healthy microbiome. We'll dive into the forms of fiber that are best able to increase short chain fatty acids and feed the "right" bugs in your gut.

Soluble Fiber

Examples: oats, barley, chia, flax, apples, citrus, beans

Forms gel → lowers cholesterol, stabilizes blood sugar

Insoluble Fiber

Examples: wheat bran, vegetables, nuts, seeds, fruit/veg skins

Adds bulk → speeds transit

Resistant Starch

Examples: cooled potatoes, green bananas, lentils

Feeds beneficial microbes
